

Dr. Lonn Bradley Lockhart and Dr. Melinda Rainey are both board certified ophthalmologists. Their fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology has made them experts in their field.
Lonn Bradley (Brad) Lockhart, MD
After obtaining his B.A. in Biology at Austin College in Sherman, TX, Dr.
Lockhart attended medical school, completed his internship in Internal Medicine
and his residency in Ophthalmology, all at the University of Texas Medical
Branch in Galveston, TX. He was Chief Resident from 1983 to 1984. He then
completed his fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology at the University
of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA. He received his Certification with the
American Board of Ophthalmology in October 1987.
Dr. Lockhart served as the clinical assistant professor at the University
of Texas. He also served on the advisory board of the Texas Society to Prevent
Blindness, Chronically Ill and Disabled Children’s Services with the
Texas Health Department and the Travis County Children’s Protective
Services.
He is currently a member of the following: American Medial Association,
Texas Medical Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Texas Ophthalmology
Association, Austin Pediatric Society, Travis County Medical Society, American
Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, Texas Society for
Pediatric Ophthalmology; as well as the Austin Ophthalmology Society, which
he was the president of from 1990 – 1991.
Dr. Lockhart opened Children's Eye Center in 1985.
Melinda Rainey, MD
Dr. Rainey earned a B.S. in Microbiology from University of Texas at El Paso and a
Master's in Molecular Genetics from the University of Texas at Austin. She subsequently
attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston for medical school and finished her
ophthalmology residency at Cullen Eye Institute/Baylor College of Medicine. In 1997,
she completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Texas Children's
Hospital in Houston. She became board certified in Ophthalmology in 1998.
Before relocating to Austin, Dr. Rainey was the Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology at
Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, a large, multispecialty clinic in Houston for nine years where
she served on their Board of Directors. She is also serves on the Board of Directors
for Lighthouse of Houston and is a delegate to the Texas Medical Association.
Dr. Rainey has a strong connection to Austin as her father's family has lived in and
around Austin for more than 170 years.
She is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the American
Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, Texas Ophthalmology Association,
Texas Medical Association, and Texas Society for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.

Connie has been our office manager/administrator since the practice opened in 1985. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmic Executives (AAOE) and the Professional Association of Medical Office Management (PAHCOM). She is also a former Board member of the Travis County PAHCOM association. She can be reached at extension 106.
Kimberly joined the practice in 1990, after working at
YouthVision. She has worked in all areas of the office including being the
doctor’s assistant for 4 years. Currently she handles the accounts
receivable. She can be reached at extension 111.
Liz came on board in 1998. She was the doctor’s main
assistant before becoming our surgery coordinator. She checks patients in
and out as well as being the contact person for hospital consultations.

Shannon is the newest member of our team, joining in 2004.
Not only is she the doctor’s main assistant. In between seeing patients,
she fills requests for medical records, prescriptions and eye reports. .
